A 22-year-old man has committed suicide by hanging at Dokrochiwa in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.

The deceased, Charles Blewu, a farmer, was found hanging in his room Wednesday morning after his room was forced open.

He reportedly hanged himself with a sponge tied to the ceiling.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at Nsawam Government Hospital.

The cause of his action is not yet known. According to the bereaved family, Blewu visited his wife and child a day before the incident but did not show any sign of depression.

The incident is happening few days after 48-year-old-man Yaw Bempong allegedly committed suicide after a misunderstanding ensued him and his wife.

The incident happened at Alotoso, a farming community in the Atewa East District of the Eastern Region.

Suicide remains a major Public Health Challenge worldwide.

Ghana estimatedly records about 1,500 suicide cases annually.

According to the World Health Organization , close to 800 000 people commit suicide everyday and with many more people attempting suicide.

Suicide occurs throughout the lifespan and established to be the second leading cause of death among 15–29-year-olds globally in 2016.

Over 79% of global suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries in 2016.
