The Academy of Movement Image Arts and Sciences early Monday stated “it doesn’t don’t condone violence” after actor Will Smith slapped Chris Rock within the face on stage on the Oscars over the comedians joke about Jada Pinkett Smith.
“The Academy doesn’t condone violence of any kind,” the group tweeted after the occasion. “Tonight we’re delighted to rejoice our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this second of recognition from their friends and film lovers all over the world.”
Rock, a presenter, joked that he couldn’t wait to see Pinkett Smith in “GI Jane 2,” quipping about her bald head. Enraged, Smith ran onto the stage and hit Rock within the face.
“Hold my spouse’s identify out of your f–king mouth” the actor shouted on the surprised comic after returning to his seat.
After the surprising altercation, Will Smith was awarded the Oscar for Best Actor for his efficiency in King Richard and gave a teary-eyed apology throughout his acceptance speech.
