He was found guilty of all the allegations leveled against just last month. Prosecutors asked for him to serve the right jail term that every sexual assault offender faces.
Harvey who is 67 looked frail and weak as he appeared in court in a wheelchair. His lawyers pleaded that he serves only 5 years but the judge overlooked it.
Harvey expressed remorse and begged the court to exercised justice with a certain degree of leniency.
Several women had come forward to accuse Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault, rape from 2017.
He has consistently denied wrongdoing and his lawyers have vowed to appeal against his conviction.
These were the first charges to make it to trial. Weinstein still faces further criminal charges, for rape and sexual assault, in Los Angeles, where officials have started extradition proceedings.
Hours after being sentenced, he was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan with chest pains, a spokesman said. He had heart surgery after his conviction.
