Anna May Wong, who already has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is about to make history by being the first Asian American to be portrayed on money in the United States. Following the announcements of Maya Angelou, Sally Ride, Nina Otero-Warren, and Wilma Mankiller, Bing Wong will become the first Chinese American actress to work in Hollywood. She will also be the fifth celebrity to be included in the documentary.
Anna Wong was born in Los Angeles to parents of Taishanese Chinese ancestry who were of the second generation of Chinese Americans. At a young age, Wong had a passion for acting and began appearing in films. During the time of silent cinema, she was an actress in films such as The Thief of Bagdad (1922), which was directed by Douglas Fairbanks, and The Toll of the Sea (1922), which was one of the first pictures shot with color (1924).

Mary Wong and Lew Ying were her siblings. Mary was previously Anna’s film understudy. Anna’s father’s disapproval of her acting profession severely strained their relationship. In 1931, following the loss of Anna’s mother in a vehicle accident, they became even more apart. The will of Anna disinherited her father. On July 15, 1940, at the age of 30, Mary Wong committed herself by hanging herself in her garage in Los Angeles, California. She played a minor part in the romantic film The Good Earth (1937). There is no information about Lew Ying.
