On Pop Idol in 2002, the Scotsman placed third, behind winners Gareth Gates and Will Young. Later that year, his single “Colorblind” topped the UK charts, while his album “Dive In” peaked at number 10 on the charts there.
After his breakthrough performance, he became a fixture on the West End stage, making performances in such productions as Chicago and the Olivier Award-winning Guys and Dolls. On Tuesday, his family revealed that he had been found dead in his New York City residence.
