Owaisi comes from a family that is well respected in Hyderabad’s political establishment. His grandfather Abdul Wahed Owaisi restructured the political group Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen on September 18, 1957, and renamed it the India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. In addition to this, once Qasim Razvi was released from prison, he immediately became the new president of the party and took over as the head of the organization.
His grandfather Sultan Salahuddin was successful in his bid to be elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the year 1962.
In 1984, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi was successful in his bid to become a member of the Indian Parliament by winning the election for the Hyderabad constituency.
Up until 2004, when he decided to step aside in favor of Asaduddin, he was victorious in all of the elections he ran from that seat. He died in 2008.

On December 11th, 1996, Farheen Owaisi and Owaisi tied the knot and became husband and wife. One of the six children that the couple had together is Sultanuddin Owaisi, who is the only son of the two (born in 2010). Qudsia Owaisi is one of the five daughters that he has.
