A recent report from Brown University indicated that, Bald men are more at risk of suffering from severe coronavirus. This they say is because bald men carry hormones that helps covid-19 to attack body cells.
According to the report which was based on a research conducted in Spanish hospitals, the hormone Androgen, which causes hair loss in men, has been identified as a common factor in some of the worst cases of coronavirus.
The research data found 79% out of a sample size of 122 covid-19 patients in Madrid hospitals to be bald. this finding was published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
‘We really think that baldness is a perfect predictor of severity.’ Professor Carlos Wambier, the lead author of the research told reporters.
He further stated that, ‘We think Androgens or male hormones are definitely the gateway for the virus to enter our cells,’.
The researchers plan to name the discovery after Dr. Frank Gabrin, a bald man and the first physician to have died of the virus in the United States. The proposed name is the Gabrin Sign.
