This 2019 science-fiction movie from director Andrew Patterson is among the finest directorial debuts of the final decade, with Patterson’s eager eye in a position to deliver to life a small city experiencing unusual phenomena from the sky. That includes some truly incredible continuous shots featuring hundreds of extras and one of my favorite intimate cinematic scenes featuring just one person on screen, The Huge of Evening is a movie college pupil’s dream that follows a younger switchboard operator and a disc jockey in Nineteen Fifties New Mexico looking for the supply of unidentified sounds, and it is an entrancing thriller from the opening shot to the closing seconds. –Tim Surette [Trailer]
