Billy Gibbons is an American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor. He is most well-known for his role as the guitarist and lead singer for the American rock band ZZ Top. Gibbons was born William Frederick Gibbons on December 16, 1949[1], but he is also known professionally as The Reverend Billy F. Gibbons.

It was with the Moving Sidewalks that he got his start in the music industry. With them, he recorded Flash (1968) and opened four shows for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Late in 1969, Billy F. Gibbons established ZZ Top, and the band’s self-titled debut album was issued by ZZ Top in early 1971.

Gibbons has collaborated with a variety of other musicians and appeared on a number of television shows, the most notable of which is Bones. On the list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time that was published by Rolling Stone in 2011, he was placed at number 32.

Gibbons was born in Tanglewood, Texas, to Frederick Royal and Lorraine Gibbons. His father was an entertainer, orchestra conductor, and concert pianist who worked for Samuel Goldwyn at MGM Studios alongside his second cousin, art director Cedric Gibbons.

Gibbons’s mother took him and his sister to see Elvis Presley when he was five years old. Gibbons’ father took him to a BB King recording session when he was seven years old.
