William Frederick Gibbons (born December 16, 1949) is an American rock guitarist and primary vocalist for ZZ Top. Gibbons began his career with the Moving Sidewalks, who recorded Flash (1968) and opened four dates for the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Gibbons formed ZZ Top in late 1969 and released ZZ Top’s First Album in early 1971. Gibbons appeared in seven episodes of the Fox network TV series Bones over a nine-year period. As the father of Michaela Conlin’s character, Angela Pearly Gates Montenegro, he plays a fictionalized version of himself. On the show, Gibbonsis never mentioned by name; instead, he is referred to as “Angela’s father.” Conlin’s character has the same middle name as Gibbons’ Les Paul guitar. Gibbons’ character is fiercely protective of his daughter, and he frequently “threatens” or “haunts” Angela’s husband and colleague Dr. Jack Hodgins, warning him that he will pay if he hurts Angela.
Gibbons drugged and kidnapped Hodgins when Angela and Hodgins first broke up, and he also tattooed Angela’s face on his left deltoid area. When Angela discovers the tattoo, she informs Hodgins that she wants it removed (which he never does) and angrily exclaims, “I am so going to kick his Texan bad ass.”
