Paris Saint-Germain has been crowned champions of Ligue 1 after the French football season ended early due to the coronavirus crisis.

PSG had a 12-point lead over second-placed Marseille when the season was suspended as part of the French government’s measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The Premier League has yet to reveal its plans for English football’s top flight since it was suspended due to coronavirus, with Liverpool sitting top and 25 points clear of their nearest rival.

A points-per-game system, taking into account the performance of clubs in the matches already played, was used to determine the final standings in the Ligue 1 table.

Marseille have qualified directly for the Champions League while third-place Rennes will enter the qualifying rounds, with Toulouse and Amiens relegated.

Didier Guillot, chief executive of the French League, said: “We have decided there would be two promotions and two relegations.
