Communications Minister and Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West Constituency, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful is of the view that, critics of the newly selected running mate of the opposition NDC must base their criticisms on her public records.

“We should take her on for her record in public life and resist the temptation of calling her names and hurling invectives at her just because she is a woman” Ursula Owusu said.

The Member of Parliament who doubles as a gender advocate stated this on her Facebook page in a short reportage made on her interview with Oman FM in which she was asked to respond to questions on the NDC running mate.

The Communications Minister however stated that, though she welcomes the selection of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman as the NDC’s Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2020 elections, gender advocates cannot vouch for her contribution to the cause of women empowerment in the country.

According to her, the selected candidate has not done enough in gender issues. She mentioned the likes of the former First Lady of the Republic, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, and acknowledged “other members of the NDC” which she did not identify by name.

She further asserted that, “the former Vice President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers explained that Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman’s record in public life would make it very difficult to rally the ‘female Constituency’ to support her bid”

The above position was premised on her alleged role in the montie three saga in which she was said to have signed a petition purported to bail three communicators of the NDC who were reported to have threatened to ‘rape’ the then Chief Justice, Mrs. Georgina Wood.
