At UFC 253, Sanchez took fight Jake Matthews on September 27, 2020. He was defeated by a score of unanimous decisions. Donald Cerrone and Sanchez were slated to square off on May 8, 2021, during UFC on ESPN 24. But on April 28, Sanchez withdrew from the contest for an unspecified reason, and Alex Morono took his place. Sanchez claims the organization paid him his guaranteed purse, win money, and sponsorship money despite the fact that he did not engage in combat.
