Drug addict rescued from streets by his childhood friend, dies two years after

A Kenyan drug addict who went viral after he was rescued from the streets by his childhood friend in 2017 has died.

Patrick Hinga Wanjiru, who almost ran mad because of drugs was rescued a former classmate and childhood friend, Wanja Mwaura, who fed and helped get him admitted at Chiromo lane Medical Center, where he got rehabilitated.

Taking to her Facebook on Monday morning to share the sad news, Wanja said Patrick had gone to visit his friends on Thursday before calling his mother to complain about stomach-ache, but it wasn’t serious. She also noted that he spent the night with his friends but on Saturday night when the problem persisted, he went to a hospital where he passed on.

I know all of you my dear friends are concerned and have many questions about the death of our friend Hinga. According to the mother, Hinga was doing fine n he did his best to remain the man we all helped him to be. on Thursday the 14th, Hinga left home n went to visit his friends in kayole, upon reaching there he called his mom n complained of a stomach-ache though not serious, he spent the night there and said he will be ok. On Saturday late night the problem persisted n that’s when he decided to go to the hospital but by the time the mother got to him early morning yesterday, he had already passed on. I feel confused n lost and I don’t know what to say or think or even where to start.
We are still trying to come to terms with it n make funeral arrangements. I will update you when, where n how he will be buried. Thankyou for your continued support. I need you more than ever before for this one last time.
