In recent times, light has been going on and off at almost every part of the country.

Ghanaians have hence concluded that Dumsor is probably back.

However, the Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Mr Kwame Agyeman-Budu has said the country is not back to the era where load is shed popularly referred to as ‘dumsor’ as it is being speculated by some persons.

According to Mr. Agyeman-Budu the current erratic power supply being experienced in some parts of the country is due to some maintenance works ongoing.

The situation, he pointed out, will soon be over.

He told Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM Wednesday March 4 that: “dumsor is not back.”

Mr Agyeman-Budu noted that areas experiencing intermittent power supply could be due to faulty transformers and “that cannot be described as dumsor,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) insists dumsor is back.

The Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, Mr John Abdulai Jinapor, therefore, cautioned Energy Minister John Peter Amewu to “lift his unlawful gagging orders which he has imposed on the power sector SOEs preventing them from publishing an already-prepared load-shedding timetable.”

According to Mr Jinapor, GRIDCo has been “clandestinely” shedding about 200MW since the first week of February this year with no end in sight.

“Let me be clear that the dreaded dumsor, which the Mahama administration resolved, is sadly back due to the ineptitude and mismanagement of the energy sector,” Mr Jinapor said in a statement.
