Having been born in Toronto, Canada on November 13, 2002, British professional tennis player Emma Raducanu calls the United Kingdom home.

Presently, she holds the position of Britain’s current top player. On April 25th, 2022, she hit her highest WTA ranking of No. 11.

The last British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title was Virginia Wade at the 1977 Wimbledon Championships; the current US Open champion, Monica Raducanu, is the first since then.
Raducanu, who was born in Toronto but grew up in London, debuted on the WTA Tour that year (June 2021). She got a wild card into Wimbledon and made it all the way to the fourth round in her maiden major competition.

At the US Open two months later, Raducanu made history by becoming the first singles qualifier in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam championship. She did it by defeating Leylah Fernandez in the final without dropping a set.

This Grand Slam competition was her second overall.

The number of majors played by Raducanu until he finally won one is the fewest in the Open Era.

Emma Raducanu parents: Ion Răducanu, Renee Zhai

Born to Ion Răducanu of Bucharest, Romania, and Renee Zhai of Shenyang, China, Emma has a Romanian father and a Chinese mother.

They “both came from very scholarly households, communist nations so education was kind of their only option,” she has said of her parents.

Her mom and dad are also bankers.

Although she was just two when her family relocated to England, she is a dual citizen of both countries.

Her Romanian-speaking grandma resides in Bucharest, while her Chinese-speaking grandmother resides in Northeast China.
