Ghana music industry lacks support from Ghanaians – Possigee

Ghanaian award-winning producer, sound engineer and philanthropist, Awal Alhassan, popularly known as Possigee, claims that Ghanaians do not support the Ghana music industry.

According to him, what has caused the Ghanaian and Nigerian music industries to be constantly compared.

In an interview with TV3 New Day, Possigee, stated that some Ghanaians do not support Ghanaian music because of personal conflicts with musicians. He gave an example in which some DJs refuse to play songs by artists in order to promote their music because they have personal issues with them.

He added, “From a production standpoint, the Ghana music industry is lacking the support from Ghanaians to Ghanaian. A DJ will play more foreign music than Ghanaian music. They will give an excuse that they tried to call this artiste and tried to holla, and he never got back to them, so why should they play his or her music”. “It has become a personal thing within the industry. When they are asked if they hear from that foreign artiste whose music they are playing or have any means of reaching them, they tend to say no.”

Possigee went on to say that the country’s music marketing plan should be tweaked and strengthened in order to enhance the number of people who are aware of Ghanaian music and its international appeal.

He expressed his delight at being a part of Wizkid’s “Made in Lagos,” which was nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 64th Grammy Awards.

He claimed that the team worked on the album for seven months and recorded more than thirty tracks, just six of which were released owing to management’s decision.

Possigee praised the Nigerian act’s great work ethic, adding that the merger of Ghanaian and Nigerian acts is a force to be reckoned with.
