About a week ago, a video went viral which saw some 3 men believed to be Police Officers abusing an Uber Driver around Pentecost University, near Sowutuom.

Well, the Ghana Police Service has released an official statement concerning the sad event.

The Ghana Police Service categorically denied claims that the cops who attacked the Uber driver were not uniformed policemen as being speculated on social media.

A statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of the service indicates that the suspects have been identified as part of ongoing investigations and they are Community Police Assistant, (CPA) and not Police Officers.

A video went viral early this week in which three uniformed persons believed to be policemen were seen attacking an Uber driver who was using a blue Suzuki Alto salon car.

But the police are contradicting claims the said persons are officers with the service.

POLICE STATEMENT ON VIRAL VIDEO INVOLVING TWO OFFICERS

1. The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to a video circulating on social media about a “Police Officer” in a tussle with a civilian Uber driver around Pentecost University, near Sowutuom last Saturday.

2. The Ghana Police Service wishes to state that the said Uber driver, has lodged a formal complaint at the Sowutuom Police station and the incident is being investigated.

3. So far, investigation revealed that the said Officers have been identified as Community Police Assistant, (CPA) and not Police Officers. They are however, assisting investigation.

4. The Police Service further assure the public that we are committed to carrying out our mandate with the mission to deliver services in crime prevention, detection, apprehension and prosecution of offenders consistent with international best standards by respecting the human rights of all and adherence to professional police practices.
