A Ghanaian Chief, Nana Kodwo Condua VI close to Elmina has banished a 40-year-old fishmonger recognized as Margaret Akuvi Akoto to leave Bantuma, a town near Elmina over her refusal to pay a fine imposed on her.

According to the report captured on Daily Graphic, Akoto, a member of the town’s fishmongers association, defied the group’s decision to sell smoked fish per an order of rationing.

In March of 2019, members of the association said they will regulate the supply of smoked fish from Bantuma to Keta and Denu markets in the Volta region to avoid glut but it was at a meeting where Akoto was not present.

Akoto therefore defied the meeting’s conclusion. She also refused to pay the fine for her defiance.

This incurred the wrath of the leadership of the association and they dragged her to the chief of the Edina Traditional Council, Nana Kodwo Condua VI.

He was banished from the town but upon petitioning Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to intervene a date has been set to have the decision overturned.

Nana Kodwo Condua VI decision goes against the Freedom of Movements captured in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
