Since the outbreak of COVID-19, people who feel threatened by the disease in their countries are fleeing to countries without the virus which in itself is very harmful to the host nations. As part of measures to stop this risky inter-country movement to reduce or stop the spread of COVID-19, the government has initiated certain strict measures including, lockdown, boarder restriction and testing of Ghanaians and those who have already entered the country.
Some foreigners who took part in the general testing process proved positive and as usual, the government triggered the repatriation arrangements to get them back to their respective countries to be subjected to their treatment processes and as well prevent the risk of infection here in Ghana.
Unfortunately, two neighboring countries, Guinea and Burkina Faso, according to reports are not willing to respect this diplomatic arrangement. They have refused to receive the total of eight citizens of their countries who tested positive in Ghana.
According to the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, Guinean authorities rejected the repatriation offer whilst Burkina Faso is equally threatening to send back Ghanaians who are critically ill and currently undergoing treatment in their hospitals.
Mr. Saeed added that, despite the difficulties they are facing, officials of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs are brainstorming a favorable and mutually beneficial arrangements to manage the situation for a peaceful coexistence.
