A fresh report by 3news.com indicates that a court in Abura Dunkwa Kwamankese in the Central Region has remanded into prison custody, the 22-year-old woman who inflicted cutlass wounds on the hand of her five-year-old stepson and left it to rot.

The pregnant woman who is nursing a baby will spend the next two weeks in prison custody together with her 36-year-old palm wine tapper husband, David Mensah.

Efua Abaduwa and David Mensah who were arrested Tuesday afternoon, and arraigned on provisional charges of causing harm and abetment of crime Wednesday before the Abura Dunkwa Magisrate Court.

The little boy’s arm has being successfully amputated

Their plea was reserved by police prosecutors to allow investigations into the case to be completed. They are expected in court again on February 14.

3news on Tuesday broke the story of how 22-year-old woman was said to have accidentally inflicted cutlass wound on the left arm of the stepson about a month ago at Ahomfie, a village near Abura Dunkawa and left it untreated.

A week after, the wound started to deteriorate and gradually got out of hand resulting in the decomposition of the arm.

According to the boy, a week after the stepmother noticed his hand was swollen and the condition was deteriorating, his stepmother boiled water and dipped the affected hand into it because he had out of pain, resisted the hand from being massaged.

The two persons who saw the boy in town and were shocked the harrowing experience of the boy, immediately reported the matter to the District Director of NCCE, Mrs Ellen Osei. She also reported the case to the district police the same day and took the boy to hospital.

It wasn’t intentional

But the woman upon her arrest Tuesday told 3news.com that she did not intend to cause injury to the stepson and that what happened was accidental.

She claimed Isaac Mensah defecated on their compound so she decided to punish him when they went to farm.

“I was then holding a cutlass so I decided to use the side of it to hit him, but he raised his arm to block it and unfortunately the cutlass cut him. We took him to a clinic and he was given injection and medication,” she said.

Meanwhile, victim has successfully undergone a successful “destructive surgery” leading to the amputation of the decomposing hand.
