Hon. John Peter Amewu is a Ghanaian politician and former Minister of Energy in Ghana.

On December 7th of 2020, He became the first New Patriotic Party candidate to win a parliamentary election in the Volta region.

Age

He was born in the year 1972 at Wli Todzi in the Volta Region of Ghana. He is 49 years old as of the year 2021.

Hometown

He hails from Wli Todzi in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region of Ghana.

Education

He attended the Hohoe E.P. Senior High School, the St. Mary’s Seminary Senior High School, Lolobi and Adisadel College for his secondary level education.

He went onto the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for his first degree.

He furthered his education to obtain an MBA in Finance from University of Ghana, Legon and proceeded to obtain a Post Graduate Degree in International Energy Industry Management and a Master’s degree in Petroleum Law and Policy from University of Dundee (UK).

Career and Politics

He was appointed by John Kufour as the Municipal Chief Executive for Hohoe Municipal Assembly, he served from 2005 to 2009.

He was the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2004 and 2008 general election but lost to Prince Jacob Hayibor in both contest.

In May, 2017, President Nana Akufo-Addo named John Peter Amewu as part of nineteen ministers who would form his cabinet.Hon. John Peter Amewu

President Nana Akuffo Addo also named Mr. John Peter Amewu as the Minister-designate for Energy.

He is on the list presented to parliament for approval on 21st January 2021, by the president of Ghana Nana Akuffo-Addo, as the Minister for Railway Development designate.

On December 7th, 2020, Amewu became the first New Patriotic Party candidate to win a parliamentary election in the Volta region.
