President Akufo-Addo says neither his government nor the New Patriotic Party has made plans to “recruit party thugs for the 2020 general elections”.

This was contained in a letter responding to the NDC’s position on the President’s call for the disbandment of party militias.

The opposition NDC party in its letter to the President had requested the government to abandon its plans and rather instruct its agents in the regions to stop the state-sanctioned recruitment of political party thugs for the purpose of the 2020 general election.

But Mr Akufo-Addo in his response to the NDC letter authored by the National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo said:”Neither the New Patriotic Party nor I need political party thugs to win the 2020 election.”

He also rejected the NDC’s allegations that the governing NPP has sponsored vigilantes into the National Security system.

“No such sponsorship has taken place and none will take place” President Akufo-Addo noted in his letter.

In the said letter by Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo the main opposition party nonetheless said they will avail themselves “of the opportunity whenever at the pleasure of Your Excellency and at a venue convenient for the purpose.”

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo in his response said government stands ready to provide a venue for the meeting, if it’s the wish of the parties.
