Arsenal hero Paul Merson claims he “nearly fell off my chair” after learning that Arsenal could snap up Thomas Partey for £45m.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is hoping to reinforce his squad options with Partey before the transfer window shuts today.

Sky Sports pundit Merson insisted that Partey would bring much-needed ‘discipline’ to Arsenal and doesn’t believe the £45m price tag is ‘a lot of money.’

The 52-year-old told Sky Sports: “I think he’s a top-draw player. I nearly fell off my chair, £45million, I don’t think that’s a lot of money at all for the quality of player you are getting here.

“The one thing he brings as well. Discipline. He has played at Atletico Madrid, who are one of the most disciplined teams in Europe and he would do that.

He’s not a midfield player who goes running all over the place and you are thinking, ‘Where has he gone?’ He is very disciplined. I think he would be a great signing.”

Thomas Partey is completing his medicals right now Arsenal training ground. He has joined Arsenal on permanent deal.

Atlético Madrid are planning to announce Lucas Torreira on loan as new signing after medicals completed days ago.
