Minister of Communications, Madam Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has backed the firing of arms by Madam Hawa Koomson at a registration centre in Kasoa a few days ago.

According to the Minister who doubles as MP for Ablekuma West, she would have done exactly what Hawa Koomson did or even more to protect herself anytime she is attacked.

In a tweet, Ursula Owusu Ekuful recounted an event that transpired in 2012, where according to her, she was attacked by some NDC supporters at Odododiodio, a constituency in Greater Accra, but failed to protect herself because she had no gun at the time.

She stated empirically that she would have shot her attackers if she had a gun at the time since her life was in danger and that was the most sensible thing every person in that situation will do. Therefore, she supports and endorses the action of the Minister of Special Initiatives, Madam Hawa Koomson.

“I stand with Hawa Koomson. If I had a gun on me in April 2012 when NDC sponsored thugs attacked me in Odododiodio, I would have shot them to protect myself. I didn’t and the rest is history. She had the right to protect herself if she felt threatened, she tweeted.

Madam Hawa Koomson’s action has been condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians and political and non-political organizations with greater demand for her resignation or eventual sack.

Meanwhile, she has since been arrested by the police and the gun she used to fire the warning shots has been retrieved as thorough investigation begins into the entire chaos that was orchestrated by the MP of the area.

On the other side, the New Patriotic Party is yet to issue an official statement on the issue but some of its officials who have spoken, have expressed support for the minister and do not see anything wrong with what she did.
