Seasoned broadcast journalist and the host of the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Bernard Avle has said the case count of the Coronavirus infection may be high in Africa but our health system may not be able to record them in real-time.
In a discussion with his panel on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, the 2017 Journalist of the Year compared the health system in most parts of Africa to that of the United States and Italy.
According to Bernard Avle, the US and Italy can churn out huge numbers of Coronavirus cases because their system can record every single infection.
Contrarily, the health system in Ghana and other Africa countries is informal which makes it extremely difficult for these countries to fully record the actual number of Coronavirus.
To paraphrase what he said:
The US and Italy have the health system to record these numbers of cases but if you come to Ghana, our system is largely informal so I can say in Africa, we will not be able to record these high numbers of Coronavirus cases because our health system is not strong enough.
Ghana has recorded 132 confirmed cases, 4 deaths and 1 person has recovered while Nigeria has recorded 65 confirmed cases, 1 death, and 3 individuals have recovered.
