He was born Robert Nesta Marley on February 6, 1945. Furthermore, he started playing music from high school forming the band the “the Wailers” with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. In 1963, they released their single “Simmer Down” which was a success in Jamaica.

In the 1970s, Marley and the Wailers were touring with Johnny Nash. In 1973, they released their first album, Catch a Fire. It went up to No. 1 in the U.S., but Jamaicans were not too keen on his new sound. By the next year, the Wailers disbanded.

In 1976, there was an attempt against Marley’s life and he was wounded which made him leave Jamaica to London where he released Exodus and Kaya. Marley went on to record 11 albums.
