Jerry Quarry, often known as “Irish” or “The Bellflower Bomber,” was an American professional boxer who competed from May 15, 1945, to January 3, 1999. In the years between 1968 and 1971, when his career was at its height, The Ring magazine named Quarry the most well-liked fighter in the industry. His fights with Muhammad Ali are the most well-known ones. Quarry developed an incredibly severe form of dementia pugilistic as a result of cumulative damage from not paying attention to defense against bigger fighters at the highest level, not sparring with the head guard, and attempts at comebacks in 1977, 1983, and 1992. Quarry passed suddenly at the age of 53, unable to carry out daily activities, dependent on his family, and with his riches wasted.
Quarry was the most prominent boxer from a prominent Irish-American family that also included three other professional fighters (his father and two brothers). At age five, Quarry’s father gave his son his first pair of gloves.
