Sale was born in Lakeland, Florida. While a student at Lakeland Senior High School, where he eventually graduated, he participated in basketball and baseball.

On August 6, 2010, he made his major league debut with the Chicago White Sox, a team he had previously played for. Sale has shattered multiple records as a power pitcher and excels at earning plenty of strikeouts. He has a height of 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m), a weight of 180 pounds, and uses his left hand for both throwing and batting (82 kg).

Sale, an American League (AL) strikeout leader twice in 2015 and 2017, was a seven-time MLB All-Star between 2012 and 2018.
