Visvaldis George Nagobads was a Latvian-born American physician, who was born on November 18, 1921, in Riga, Latvia. He graduated from the University of Tübingen in Germany with a medical degree before immigrating to the US in 1951.
He worked for the Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s ice hockey team for 34 years, as the team’s physician and was a member of three NCAA Division I champion teams. He was also a member of the Miracle on Ice team that won the gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics.
George Nagobads has also served as the team doctor for the US men’s national team at five Winter Olympics. He also served as team physician for the Minnesota Fighting Saints and Minnesota North Stars as well as the chief medical officer for USA Hockey, and also the medical committee for the International Ice Hockey Federation, and other organizations.
