Paulette Frankl, a mime artist and collaborator, released Marcel & Me: A Memoir of Love, Passion, and Illusion in August 2014; it is a book about her decades-long relationship with Marceau. At the age of 84, Marceau passed away in a retirement community in Cahors, France, on September 22, 2007.
In 1978, Marceau received the Médaille Vermeil of la Ville de Paris, an officer of the Légion d’honneur, and a commander of the Ordre des Arts et Lettres.
