To vote is a right. At the end of the head of state’s term and his compatriots, citizens of a country make the substantial decision to choose again, who lead them for the next term, the next number of years, and in some countries until the said president is no more. With voting, citizens wield a lot of power to hand over the mandate to whoever they prefer to come and stir the affairs of the state and so by this authority given to the citizenry, it’s quite an obvious voting is a right and not a fault or offense because one was not able to vote or did not vote. An individual’s inability to vote may come from various factors. Some might take the stance not to vote because they are not willing to align themselves with anything relating to politics, some also don’t feel comfortable in crowded environments for fear of violence escalating.

Is It Illegal To Not Vote?

In Ghana and the United States, the right to vote is paramount. It is not a constitutional offense when one decides not to vote. However, it can go against an individual’s interest in the choice of the person. So no, it’s not illegal.
