Jim Bakker is an American television evangelist and convicted fraudster. He is the host of The Jim Bakker Show which focuses on the end time and second coming of Christ.
James Orsen Bakker was born January 2, 1940. He started working at Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) in 1966. He and his wife Tammy contributed to the growth of the network by hosting children’s variety shows.
Bakker co-founded Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) with Paul Crouch, however, Bakker left the partnership in just eight months.
Jimmy started his own ministry, the PTL Satellite Network in 1974. It is estimated the ministry made $1 million weekly from viewers’ contributions.
In 1987, Bakker was accused of sexual misconduct of his church secretary and a $279,000 hush money to the secretary. This led to his resignation and investigation of misuse of money generated on air.
In 1989, Bakker was sentenced to 45 years in prison for fraud. The sentence was overturned in 1992 and reduced to eight years.
In 2020, Bakker sold supplements claiming it was the cure for the coronavirus.
The Missouri attorney general filed a lawsuit against Bakker for selling a fake coronavirus cure. He was made to settle and pay $157,000 restitution.

Jim Bakker had a stroke in 2020, he however recovered. Bakker is still very much alive and healthy at 82 years, living in North Carolina with his second wife Lori.
