By 1992, Gibbs had made up his mind to stop playing all sports, but especially football. From then, he established his own NASCAR team, which has had some prominent drivers and achieved some success. But football continued calling, and by 2004, he was back as the Washington Redskins’ head coach until 2007.
In 1996, Gibbs received both selections to the NFL 100 All-Time Team and induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 2020, Gibbs became the first person to be a member of both, and he was also elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Many people consider Gibbs to be among the all-time great NFL coaches.
