Katherine was born on May 4, 1930, in heavily segregated Alabama. She always wanted to be a country singer but there were no opportunities for Black singers in country music then.
In 1949, she married Joseph “Joe” Jackson and the next year, they bought their first home.
By 1966, Katherine had given birth to ten children, unfortunately, one of the twins, Brandon died a few hours old.
She would always sit with her children at night and sing while Joe played the guitar and this prompted the children to pursue careers in music.
After Michael‘s death, she was the legal guardian of his child Prince, Paris and Blanket, a position she held until 2017 when she resigned as their guardian due to her own advanced age.
