He has received many honors, including 19 Grammys. Franklin, who Variety referred to as the “Reigning King of Urban Gospel,” was among the first people to get recognition on the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame.
Franklin’s mother abandoned him when he was a young child, and his aunt Gertrude reared him in Fort Worth, Texas. Kirk began piano lessons at the age of four because of Gertrude’s fundraising efforts with recycled aluminum cans.
Kirk was a pro at writing, reading music, and performing by ear. He was one of the first people to be recognized on the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2021. Franklin and American rapper Lil Baby put out the song “We Win” on May 21, 2021 as a part of the soundtrack for Space Jam: A New Legacy.
