In the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks selected Kyle Beach, a former Canadian professional ice hockey player. Beach was thought to be one of the league’s top prospects. From 2008 until 2014, he only ever competed for minor league affiliates of the American Hockey League (AHL). He was never an NHL player.
After Kyle Beach reported that a coach had sexually assaulted him during the team’s 2010 Stanley Cup-winning season, the Blackhawks reportedly did nothing. Kyle Beach brought legal action against the Blackhawks the following year, in 2021.
Power forward Kyle has an offensive skill set and an intimidating, gruff demeanour. After his first campaign there, he was selected as the Western Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year (WHL).
When playing for the Everett Silvertips, Beach’s aggressive style of play earned him many concussions and a sports hernia. After winning the WHL Rookie of the Year award in 2006–2007, he was projected to go in the top five in the 2008 NHL Entry Selection.
The Chicago Blackhawks selected Kyle with the 11th overall choice; later in his WHL career, he split time between the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Spokane Chiefs.
