Marcel Marceau was a world-renowned French mime artist, he was born on March 22, 1923, in Strasbourg, France. He is best known for his iconic character “Bip the Clown,” which he created in 1947 and portrayed throughout his career.

Marceau was born into a Jewish family and spent his childhood in Strasbourg. When he was a child, his family fled to Limoges to escape the Nazi occupation of France during World War II.

It was during this time that Marceau began to develop an interest in the art of mime. After the war, Marceau studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he learned from the famous mime artist Étienne Decroux.

In 1947, Marceau created his signature character, Bip the Clown, and has to start performing on stage. His performances were a mix of mime, music, and poetry, and he quickly became famous in France.

Marcel Marceau is dead. He died on 22 September 2007, in a retirement home in Cahors, France.
