Nacho Libre is a sports comedy-drama that was produced in 2006 by Mike White, Jared and Jerusha Hess. Jack Black plays the role of Ignacio, a Catholic monk and lucha libre enthusiast who covertly works as a luchador to raise money for the orphanage where he volunteers. A real-life Mexican Catholic priest named Fray Tormenta, popular called “Friar Storm” or Rev. Sergio Gutiérrez Bentez had a 23-year career as a masked wrestler to support the orphanage. His life is based on the movie. Producing the movie were Black, White, David Klawans, and Julia Pistor.

On June 16, 2006, Paramount Pictures released the movie. In contrast to its $35 million production budget, it earned $99.3 million at the global movie office and received mixed reviews from critics.
