Rachel became the first woman to hold a full-time position as a manager of a team connected to a major league. The Yankees appointed her as the Tampa Tarpons’ Class A minor league team manager in 2022.

Balkovec began her career in 2012 as a temporary strength and conditioning coach with the Johnson City Cardinals, the St. Louis Cardinals’ Rookie league affiliate.

The Houston Astros hired Rachel in 2016 as their coordinator for strength and conditioning in South America. She learned Spanish so she could interact with gamers more efficiently in her profession. In 2018, Balkovec was promoted to the position of Class AA Corpus Christi Hooks strength & conditioning coach.

The New York Yankees announced on January 11 of 2022 that Rachel will become the first female manager in affiliated baseball when she took over as manager of the Low-A Tampa Tarpons. Rachel’s first managerial triumph in affiliated baseball came on April 8, 2022, when the Tarpons defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers 9-6.
