Born in Colombia on February 2, 1977, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll is a famous singer. She was born and raised in Barranquilla and is widely regarded as the “Queen of Latin Music” due to her musical versatility. The parents Shakira are Nidia Ripoll Torrado and William Mebarak Chadid. Her ancestors are from Lebanon and Colombia. Her father, William, came from a Lebanese family and was born in New York City.

The family moved to Colombia when he was five years old. Spanish surnames Ripoll and Torrado are used by her mother’s family; the former is Catalan and comes from four brothers who immigrated from Catalonia to coastal Colombia in the nineteenth century.

Additionally, she has asserted that a “Pisciotti” ancestor is the direct lineal descendant of distant Italian ancestors. The feminine version of the Arabic name Shakir, which means “grateful,” is Shakira. She was raised in a religious household and went to religious schools. There were eight older half-siblings born in her father’s first marriage.

She made her recording debut with Sony Music Colombia when she was 13 years old. Following the commercial failures of her first two albums, Magia (1991) and Peligro (1993), she rose to prominence in Hispanic countries with her next two albums, Pies Descalzos (1995) and Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998). She broke into the English-language market with her fifth album, Laundry Service (2001), selling over 13 million copies worldwide.
