Born on April 10, 1993, Sofia Daccarett Char, better known by her stage name Sofia Carson, is an American singer and actor. She made her debut on television as a guest star on Austin & Ally on the Disney Channel. She made her Disney Channel Original Movie debut in July 2015 as Evie, one of the movie’s key protagonists.
Carson was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Colombian immigrants José F. Daccarett and Laura Char Carson. Carson is linked to the political Char family of Colombia through her mother.
Carson began her dance studies at the age of three. She studied ballet, pointe, jazz, musical theater dance, hip hop, flamenco, modern, contemporary, and tap for seventeen years. At the Riviera Theatre in Miami, Carson made her stage debut as Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz” in 2001. She was accepted into the University of Miami’s Musical Theatre Summer Intensive a year later, where she received dance and vocal performance instruction and spent the summer appearing in numerous musicals.She has participated in a number of prestigious national dance competitions, including Star Power, Onstage, and Hall of Fame, where she has taken first place awards for both group and solo performances as well as the Critics’ Choice Award, Triple Threat Award, and Broadway Diva Award, to mention a few. Carson began training in classical vocal technique in 2006. She attended St. Hugh School before completing her education at Miami’s Carrollton School.
