A former Deputy Information Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye says Ghana wouldn’t have had water to give out for free but for the forward-thinking John Dramani Mahama.

He noted that the water that Nana Addo has decided to give to Ghanaians for free for the next 3 months is Mahama’s legacy.

He made this known via a Facebook post.

Mr. Felix Ofosu Kwakye wrote:

“More than anything else, the impact of COVID -19 and the response in Ghana have shown that nations are built on systems and process derived from visionary planning and execution, not flowery speeches and shallow populism.

We speak today of absorbing water bills for three months but what if the water wasn’t available in the first place?

Well,President Mahama moved water access from 63% in 2012 to 76% in 2016.President Mills had moved it from 58% in 2009.

One of the major projects which ensured this massive jump is the Kpong Water Expansion Project which saw the construction of the water treatment plant below. It has capacity to produce 40 million gallons of water per day for 700,000 inhabitants in 80 communities within the North-Eastern part of Accra and parts of the Eastern Region.

In all,our water production capacity increased by 102.5 million gallons of water per day between 2009 and 2016.”
