Former president, John Dramani Mahama, has described as fake, reports making rounds that he has promised some Senior High School students in the Volta region he will give them gari and students’ allowance monthly should he come back to power.

A statement signed by the former president’s spokesperson, James Agyenim-Boateng, in Tarkwa Tuesday January 8, clarified that the report is “figment of the writer’s imagination”.

As communicated in the statement, John Mahama is currently on a five-day campaign tour in the Western Region and yet to visit the Volta region.

The public is thus advised to “disregard the bizarre, outrageous and ridiculous publication and treat it with the contempt that it deserves.”

The statement emphasized the former president has been speaking of a wide range of issues but has on no occasion talked about giving gari and allowance to students.

“ He has been speaking mainly on issues affecting cocoa farmers, small scale miners, jobs, the high cost of living in the country, his development agenda for the NDC, plans to better implement Free SHS as well as his determination and commitment to eliminate the chaotic double track system in secondary education”, it indicated.
