He is a professional swimmer who performs the backstroke, butterfly and freestyle. He is also coached by Balázs Virth.

He earned a gold medal in the 200-meter butterfly at his first Olympic Games, the 2020 Summer Olympics, and a silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly.
He broke Phelps’ record, becoming the first man to do so since Serbia’s Milorad Cavic did it in the 100-meter butterfly at the World Championships ten years ago.

It was the first time Milák topped the podium among the adults as he won the 30th gold medal for Hungarian Swimming. Kristóf Milák is the third Hungarian world champion in the Republic of Korea, following Kristóf Rasovszky, winner of the 5 km open water race, and Katinka Hossz, winner of the 200 meters in the mixed event four times.
