Kwesta grew up on the streets of Guateng. His parents divorced when he was only 8 years of age, he was practically raised by his mom.

The rapper started attended the Phumuloni Secondary School for three years and later moved to Alafong High School. He dropped out of school at the age of sixteenth to pursue a career in music.

Kwesta is happily married to Yolanda Mvelase. The two have been married for six years now and have been blessed with a beautiful daughter named Khai.

Kwesta during his high school days developed an interest in poetry and was encouraged by his friends and teachers to pursue it as he was quite good at it.

He managed to convince his mother to allow him go to the offices of Buttabing Entertainment in order to be signed. His mother agreed and young Kwesta was consequently signed by the record label.

He was part of The Nokia Defend Your Street Campaign and worked with other artists to develop the theme song.

He released his first single Shap Fede which received relatively good airplay in the year 2007. He was selected as a Brand SA Ambassador in 2010. Given this role, he performed during the national roadshows held before the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Kwesta has worked with Kelly Rowland, Jozi, and 2Face among other artists on the Everywhere You Go anthem for MTN. He also got a chance to perform during the 2010 FIFA World cup closing ceremony.

September 2010 saw the release of his first studio Album called Special Rekwest. The was very successful as it had hit singles such as Babhemi, Flave, Stomp, Flash It and Pump It.

Seven of his songs were ranked on radio charts all over the country making him the first South African rapper to achieve this feat.

He got nominated for Best Newcomer and Best Rap Album in the 2011 SAMA awards and got a nomination in the Channel O Africa MVA Best Newcomer category.

In 2013, he released his second studio Album called Dakar. The album ranked 3rd on the South African iTunes Hip-hop charts during its debut.

His third studio album was released in 2016 titled Dakar II. The album is his most successful work yet.

The stand out single from the album is Ngud featuring star rapper Casper Nyovest and Nomayini. South Africa’s Recording Music Industry certified the album seven times platinum.

Dakar II has won the following awards SAMA best male artist of the year, SAMHRO highest airplay of the year for the single Ngud, SAMA best rap album, SAMPRA highest airplay of the year also for the single Ngud.
