Legendary Highlife musician, Nana Tuffour dead

Ghanaian Legendary Highlife musician, Nana Tuffour is dead. He died at the age of 66.

A close source confirmed the news of his death to Andy Dosty on Day Break HITZ show on HITZ FM.

He passed on in the early hours of Monday, 15th June, 2020. His body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Mortuary.

According to the source, the singer who released ‘Abasa Komu’ this year has been sick for some time now.

Nana Tuffour lost a close brother of his recently and due to the restrictions on funeral due to the COVID-19, his remains have been at the morgue all these while. The close source said it’s very possible that thoughts of his close brother’s death could also be one of the things that fast-tracked his death.

About Nana Tuffour

Probably his date of birth has been the star to his music stardom. Nana Tuffour a.k.a. James Kwaku Tuffour, a renowned Highlife singer/songwriter was born on Valentines Day 1954, in an era when intelligence scored substantially more points than good looks.

This pleasant singer/songwriter spent his childhood in a home full of love in Kumasi, Ghana.

Young Tuffour was fortunate to have resourceful relatives, which gave him the opportunity to enjoy music from all around the world while at home “Nana,” as he is affectionately called, kicked off his musical journey with one of the axes popularly known as “one man thousand” with keyboardist Alex Konadu.

He later joined the Wanto Wazuri Band as a pianist. Due to his sweet voice and unique style of vocalizing, Nana later became the front man of the Waza Africo Band. Envisioning a solo album, Nana left for Nigeria where he began working with famous Nigerian musician King Sunny Ade as his keyboardist.

In 1979 he released his first album Highlife Romance followed by twelve other hit albums. His new album ABEIKU is scheduled for release in March 2003.
