President Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo says government will soon pass a legislation to redefine basic education in the country to include senior high school.

The President disclosed this while presenting the 2019 State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 21.

He expressed delight over current reforms in the education sector, which he says provides a bright future for the young in the country.

“It warms my heart that we are now able to say that education in the public sector is free from Kindergarten to Senior High School, and that this year, a legislation would be passed to redefine Basic education to include Senior High School.”

According to the president, government through the Ghana Education Service is also set to introduce a new curriculum at the primary school level to focus more on harnessing the creativity of pupils.

He also said government is focused on churning out technology-savvy graduates to match up to standards around the world; hence, there are measures to place that at the center of education in the country.

The President also made mention of the building of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Centres into basic education.

He also said some 10 state-of-the art Technical and Vocational Educational (TVET) Training Centres will be constructed to boost vocational training in the country.
