Marika Koroibete was born in Naraiyawa, Fiji, on July 26, 1992. After a brief spell playing rugby union with Nasinu Secondary School in Fiji, Marika accepted a three-year deal to play in Australia with the Wests Tigers. He was signed after being observed competing for the Fiji Under 19s in a match against Fijian players with Australian ancestry.
In 26 games while playing for the Tigers Toyota Cup squad in 2011 and 2012, Marika scored 22 tries. The squad won the 2012 Grand Final owing to Marika’s two tries. While playing on the wing for the West Tigers against the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the Tigers’ 32-6 defeat, Koroibete made his NRL debut.
Koroibete only participated in 9 games in 2013 due to a number of ailments, including an elbow dislocation and an eye socket fracture. He did, however, average over three tackle breaks, 100 meters with the ball, and five tries each game.
