Marlon Brando left behind an amazing legacy of victory, waste, and tragedy when he passed away in 2004. Everything is covered in TCM’s comprehensive 165-minute portrayal, which chronicles his development from a troubled midwestern kid to the familial tragedies that haunted his latter years—his son’s manslaughter conviction and his daughter’s death.
All in all, it’s been a wild voyage. The documentary’s creators are giddy with joy, while Medavoy seems more reserved. He explains, “The movie has bad associations for me since I don’t know if Marlon would like it. “But it’s also advantageous because it has reunited his family. There is some turmoil in that family, and a lot of that has to do with how his life turned out. However, they enjoyed the movie after seeing it. So I suppose I feel justified.”
Brando and Medavoy allegedly had daily phone conversations. “But I doubt I ever had a close relationship with him. Few people actually did.” And despite all the glowing recommendations in the movie, he believes that Brando’s sister Jocelyn, who spoke at his funeral, deserves the last word. “I just want you to know that I loved my brother, she stated as the last speaker. But Marlon is no more. Allow him to depart.”
